Lagos State Govt Is Sued For N1 Billion by Igbo Deportees
Lagos State Government has been dragged into a federal court by the
76 destitute persons it deported and dumped on the Upper Iweka Bridge,
Onitsha, Anambra State on July 24, 2013.
Seven of the deportees filed the suit before the court sitting in Lagos on behalf of rest while the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner of Police are the respondents.
The deportees are seeking a declaration by the court that their arrest and detention in various camps within Lagos state for no offence known to law and without trial and conviction by a court of competent jurisdiction, amounted to a serious breach of their rights as provided for in the relevant sections of the constitution.
The hearing, which will be presided over by Justice Anumogobia, is set to begin on January 29, 2014.
