Prolonged ASUU Strike Is the Handiwork of Amaechi and New PDP – Education Minister Says

Chief Nyesom Wike, the  Minister of State for Education has accused Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and his cohorts in the new Peoples’ Democratic Party, nPDP, of being behind the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Speaking through the Secretary-General of the Grassroots Development Initiative, GDI, Samuel Nwanosike, Wike also called on well-meaning Nigerians to call Gov. Amaechi to order and stop embarrassing people of Rivers State. These claims were in reaction to a statement credited to Amaechi that rather than focus on the strike embarked upon by ASUU, and recently ASUP, he (Wike) was busy gallivanting campaigning for his governorship ambition. Lord’s Chosen Church Lagos Is Closed by State Govt over Fears of Disease Outbreak

The headquarters of the Lord’s Chosen and Charismatic Revival Church on Ijesha, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, southwest Nigeria has been closed indefinitely by Lagos State Government over environmental nuisance. Pastor Lazarus Muoka is the founder and General Overseer of the Lord’s Chosen Church. Ministry of Environment officials shut down the church on Sunday morning and prevented the worshippers from having their Sunday service usually attended by thousands of faithful. It has now emerged that the church does not have solid waste disposal facility. Waste is burnt inside the church premises, thereby exposing the lives of its worshippers to serious health hazard. A sizeable part of the expansive church lies on the Odo Asimawu Canal drainage channel, thereby hampering proper flow of storm water. Jonathan vows to end strike soon

In a promise Tuesday, President Jonathan said he would ensure the doctors’ and university lecturers’ strikes are brought to an end. While the teachers strike has continued for over a 100 days now, the doctors strike just kicked off after members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) came out to blame the Federal Government of for failing to meet up with the agreement reached with them. On his part, the President vowed to end the strikes saying the government has attached great importance to the medical and educational sectors. “I believe that we must manage both sectors in such a way that nobody engaged in them will think of going on strike again,” he said through Presidential spokesman Dr. Reuben Abati. “We will continue to proactively evolve measures that will help us to permanently overcome the problems that lead to strikes by health and education professionals.” President Jonathan pledged that the Federal Government would fully explore the
