De Gea: This was my best season, but we need to win FA Cup

Image
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea said he has had the best season of his career so far, but wants to cap it off with silverware in Saturday's FA Cup final. De Gea almost departed Old Trafford on the final day of the transfer window last year only for his move to Real Madrid to be scuppered after the relevant paperwork was not completed on time. But he has not let the transfer drama distract him, putting in some remarkable performances to help Untied to a fifth-place Premier League finish and an FA Cup final. He won the United Player of the Year award for a record third-time running, was voted into the PFA Player of the Year and was seconds away from taking a share of the Premier League Golden Glove award only for a last-minute own goal in the final game of the season against Bournemouth to wreck that in a superb individual season. It's been the best season of my career," said De Gea. "I'm in great shape physically and mentally I'm ver

The Lagos State Police Command says alleged wife killer, Lekan Shonde, will be tried for murder. The Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that the suspect would be arraigned in court today (Friday) for allegedly killing his wife, Ronke. This is just as our correspondent learnt that the remains of the late Ronke would soon be buried. It was gathered that the corpse had been released to her family by the police after the conclusion of autopsy on Wednesday. This is just as a member of the family said they were not excited about Lekan’s arraignment. The source, who did not want to be identified because the family did not want any further report on the matter, said the victim’s mother had insisted that she had forgiven 51-year-old Lekan. PUNCH Metro had reported that Lekan, who worked in a port in the Apapa area, had allegedly beaten his wife

Unpaid Salaries: Ekiti Workers Abandon Offices, Close Early

Image
As Ekiti State government has not paid the salaries of workers in the last five months, it has now been observed that many workers don’t go to work while those who do now close by 1 pm instead of the 4.00pm official time . In most cases, some of them found it very difficult to come to office due to paucity of funds, while the few that struggle to show up used to abandon their offices by between 12.00noon and 1.00pm. Mostly affected were the workers operating at the old governor’s office located at Oke Ori Omi along Irona quarters in Ado Ekiti and the State secretariat along bank road in the state capital. Those operating at the new governor’s office, where Governor Ayodele Fayose and his Deputy, Dr Kolapo Olusola’s offices were situated normally closed by 3pm, because of the fear of being sacked if they are caught in the act.

Image
president Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met briefly behind closed door with Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike. The meeting which was held inside the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja did not last up to 30 minutes. Wike arrived for the meeting at about 2pm and left a few minutes after. The agenda of the meeting was not made public. The governor also did not speak with State House correspondents at the end of the short meeting. While Buhari belongs to the All Progressives Congress, Wike is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. He has been having a running battle with his predecessor who is currently the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi. Amaechi who was the Director-General of Buhari’s campaign organisation has been accused of diverting the state’s fund when he was the governor to sponsor the APC campaign. The minister had since denied the allegation, insisting that he is not a corrupt government official.
